OSTROWO

When driving east from Karwia in the direction of Jastrzębia Góra and Władysławowo, just after the sign marking the end of the village, Ostrowo can be seen on a small rise to the right. The settlement's name is derived from the old-Polish word "ostrów", which means "an isle" as Ostrowo was, in the not very remote past, surrounded by waters and swamps on nearly all sides. Tourists have discovered the village's charm quite recently. Perhaps because it lies a little away from the sea; yet the beach is less than a kilometre from Ostrowo. There are no hotels or pensions here. Private guest rooms of various standards await tourists. Motorists can safely leave their vehicles at an attended car park, In Zabytkowa Street there is a bus stop, and at No 23a an old peasant's cottage with a thatched roof is well worth seeing.
