Karwia
This small village was first mentioned in written records in 1274. In the mid-l9th century it had 200 inhabitants, and there were such names among them as Schmundt, Volkmann and Witbrodt, which demonstrates that a significant number of Dutch settlers must have come to Karwia at some time. In the interwar period this tiny village was transformed into a summer resort which was only separated from a beautiful wide beach by pine-covered dunes. In order to protect the land against the sea's destructive power, a Dutch-type dam was built early in the 20th century. Today It is an engineering monument. Private guestrooms offering various standards await visitors.
